Square- A Cheaper, Easier Credit Card Payment App

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! I am just wrapping up the day of family and friends with a little blogging :)

I had several responses to my last post about Innerfence, a credit card  payment App for the iPhone, where users pointed out that an Application called “Square” is actually a better service because it is cheaper and easier to use. Therefore, I decided to take some time to research Square so that I could provide the most accurate information to YOU! After spending the last hour researching the Square credit card payment App, I would like to propose that it seems like a much better Application than Innerfence. Thank you readers for sharing the knowledge!

I began my investigation of Square by creating a profile. I was also hoping to initiate a payment account, but I read in the fine print that a credit check would be performed and so I opted out. So, as a disclaimer my opinions here are based off of analyzing Square’s website and reading user reviews, which were very good!

Basically, the Square App allows users to receive credit card payments directly onto their phone. This service can be utilized by anyone for any reason. You could be selling merchandize or collecting pizza money that your friend owed you.

Reasons Square is a better option then Innerfence-

1.) Free!! This Application is free to download in the App Store, it is free to open an account and you are even mailed a card reader for free! Some of the reviews warned that they had some issues with the card reader and so I cannot promise the best quality in the card reader, but it is free!

2.) Developed by Twitter founder Jack Dorsey. For me, this lends a massive amount of credibility because the innovative founder of the beloved Twitter platform has chosen this as his next project!

3.) The App is simple, clean and easy. I was able to download the App quickly (for free) and then register a new account. After that, all I needed to do was plug the credit card reader into my iPhone. However, I did not have a reader (obviously…) so I checked my email and there was a message guiding me to a page where I could provide the rest of my information in order to be mailed a reader and set-up the financial information necessary to begin receiving payments. All of this took less then five minutes, Awesome!

4.) Payment Functionality- The Square App allows payers to sign their name, receive a receipt via email or SMS, provide a location of the purchase, and utilize photo verification! Sellers are able to track purchases and even provide refunds if necessary.

5.) No monthly fee! Square has a standard transaction fee of $0.15 plus 2.9% of every purchase, but this mostly covers the costs from the actual credit card providers, which is unavoidable for any credit card transaction.   (Innerfence charges $25 a month!)

It is plain to see that Square out performs Innerfence on almost every level. However, one category that I have not personally tested is the  credit card readers themselves. Based upon videos, images and reviews the Innerfence reader seems sturdier because it is larger. This may be the only advantage to Innerfence…

The number one improvement that I would suggest to Square is to allow small businesses to utilize their tax ID instead of the users’ SSN. I know it is necessary to share financial information, but this is one little step that will go a long way!

In general, if you are looking for ways to receive credit card payments easily then I would like to change my opinion and now recommend Square for your iPhone.
